In these modern times where practically the entire world is on the web, if your business does not feature anywhere on the internet, then you lose a lot on your business. If you really want your business to prosper, you need to take it to the next level. Develop a website. With your website, you will get visibility of your business, that is, more people will come to know about your business; thus, you get more customers and greater profits in return.

Having said that, in order to develop a website, there are a host of things that you need to get involved in. If you accomplish these successfully, only then can you hope that your website will succeed in the business world.

Domain Name:

First and foremost you have to decide a domain name for your website. It is a name used to identify your IP address. Every device attached to the internet has a unique number called the IP address. When anyone wants to visit a website, he or she has to type in that IP address. However, it becomes very difficult to remember the IP addresses of each and every website. Hence, these domain names are used to replace IP addresses. All the names that are registered with the international Domain Name Server (DNS) are unique and this is made sure by the administrators, Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).

You should have a name which is unique and at the same time easy to remember. It could comprise of a single word or even a phrase. After deciding on the name, you need to check with checkdomain.com or whois.net to see if your name is unique and whether there is any other website with the same name or not.

After deciding on the domain name, you need to get it registered. Once registered, your name is secured for the contract period after which you will have to renew it.

Logo:

The logo is the most important part of your website. People tend to notice this logo and it becomes your brand identity. For example, when we see the 3 stripes we know for sure that it is Adidas; similarly the golden arches are symbols for McDonald’s. Thus, you need to work really hard to design the logo for your website. This logo will define the type of your business and what you are aiming at. It has to be unique and striking enough that the people will remember them. To design a good logo, you need creativity. If you have a creative designer, then your job is done or else you can hire any of the website development companies to design the logo for you.

Website:

The next thing to think and design is the website. You need to design the website in such a way that it will have a professional look, will give the feel of the type of business that you are involved in and at the same time be simple and uncluttered. It has to be effective enough, keeping your business goals in mind, so that your customers will be enticed by the website. You have to be very careful with the use of color. Do not use too many colors; keep it simple with 2 to 3 colors at the most. Also be careful about the layout and design. Keep it uniform throughout the website. Try to make the homepage most attractive and interesting, as this is the page that your customers will first come upon. Though each page will have to be designed differently, try to keep the color code and theme uniform.

Content:

Next is content development. If you have the best of designs but content does not convey any information to the viewers, it is no use to the website. For the success of your website, you need to give information about your business in simple coherent language, which will be interesting at the same time. You need to put in relevant facts and information which are true and valid. If you provide false information, the reliability factor of your website and the business on the whole will suffer.

Navigation Structure:

Navigation structure helps the users to navigate through the various pages of the website. So a good structure would help the user to go to various pages very easily. On the flip side, if the structure is not proper, the users will not be able to navigate and you might lose probable customers, which is very crucial for your business.

What you need to do is have a constant navigation menu, that is, have the same style and position on all the pages. It will be very useful to the user to move through all the pages of the website. As the home page is the most important page, try to link as many pages as you can to this page. Keep it as simple as you can.

Testing:

After all is done, you need to test your website on the basis of functionality and compatibility. You have to test whether all the pages are linked correctly, verify forms used in the website, check content for any grammatical or spelling errors and validate HTML/CSS to rectify any syntax error that may arise. You also need to check the compatibility of your website, that is, whether the settings are changing with different browsers or on different operating systems. If so, you need to make necessary changes in the web applications. After all this is ensured, you have to secure your website via Secure Sockets Layer (SSL).

After all these procedures, your website is ready to go live, that is, it is ready to be viewed by users. But, don’t you think this is a long and complicated process? Definitely, all this will require cracking of brains, creativity, a lot of time and effort and to top it all a huge amount of patience. If you can invest in all this, then go ahead and develop your own website.
